48-hour Fasting on Keto – A Woman’s Guide to Fasting for two days
My girlfriend Zs贸fi decided to do a 48 hour fast right after we came back from our two week vacation. In this video she shares her experience!
Since we indulged in a few too many local specialties during our travels over the past few weeks, Zs贸fi decided to use 2 day fasting as a method to quickly lose some excess weight and for her body to recover from foods that she is sensitive to. If you’re wondering what a 48 hour fast can look like, hopefully this video will provide some guidance!
Please make sure that, especially if you have a medical condition, you speak to your doctor first before attempting longer fasts like this.
A 48-hour (2-day) fast is a great tool you can use every now and then to break through a weight-loss plateau and to improve your health. It’s can also be used as a ‘hack’ to more quickly help you recover from a period of over-eating (like what just happened to us) 馃檪
If you’re Keto-adapted, you’re going to have a much easier time on a 48 hour fast than somebody who is not (or just starting out) on a low-carb, Ketogenic Diet. If you haven’t, I recommend you try intermittent fasting first (eg. have your last meal at 7 PM the night before and don’t eat until 12 PM the next day) and depending on how well you felt, consider trying a whole day fast and then consider pushing that fast to 48 hours if you’re feeling great.
Make sure to try 48 hour fasting the first time on some days off, when you’re not stressed. Go out for a walk, get some sunshine, but don’t go for a workout or anything similar the first time you try it. It can be a lot of fun (even more so if a friend/girlfriend joins you on the fast!) and a great way to challenge yourself.
Make sure to drink lots of water and have some coffee or tea whenever you like. You can also drink some bone broth (Zs贸fi had one cup per day during her fast) to help you get your electrolytes (in addition to just adding sea salt to a glass of water) and to serve as sort of a meal replacement in case you get hungry.
Take into account that your stomach is likely going to shrink a little after such a long fast, so don’t expect to be able to eat your usual meal portion right away! When you break your fast, start with a small, light meal (eg. some cucumber with some olives or cheese) approx. 30-60 minutes before a big meal to restart your digestion.
Apart from having an entire 48 hours without consuming any calories (apart from the broth), your reduced hunger afterwards is another reason why fasting can be a great way to lose weight!
If you’re interested in anything related to fasting, no matter whether you’re following a Ketogenic Diet or not, we highly recommend you get this book.
It鈥檚 also available as an audiobook read by the authors themselves. If you haven’t tried Audible yet, you can actually get it for free. If you cancel your membership within a month of signing up, you never pay anything and get to keep your audiobooks forever! 馃檪
